We're looking for an experienced Senior Design Manager to join our growing Design Management team and play a key role in shaping and delivering complex engineering projects across a range of sectors.

As a senior technical leader, you'll be responsible for driving technical excellence throughout the pre-construction phase, ensuring designs are robust, coordinated, compliant and commercially aligned. Working closely with clients, consultants, supply chain partners and internal teams, you'll help create innovative solutions that set projects up for success from the outset.

The role is based on projects in the Crewe area. It is a hybrid role between site, home the office in Bolton or Manchester

What You'll Do

You'll provide technical leadership across multiple projects, overseeing the development and delivery of design strategies that reduce risk, improve certainty and support successful project outcomes. You'll lead collaborative engagement with clients, designers, bid teams and operational teams, ensuring engineering solutions are challenged, refined and optimised throughout the project lifecycle.

This role offers the opportunity to influence major projects from the earliest stages, champion innovation and sustainability, and contribute to Dalkia's ambition of becoming the UK's leading technical solutions provider.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design management and technical delivery of projects during tender and pre-construction phases.
  • Develop and manage project technical strategies, design programmes and deliverables plans.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate technical and design risks to support successful project delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with the Building Safety Act, CDM Regulations and relevant industry standards.
  • Coordinate consultants, specialist designers and internal stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
  • Drive design quality, value engineering and technical innovation across projects.
  • Support digital engineering and sustainability initiatives, including Net Zero project objectives.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and technical expertise to project and design management teams.

What You'll Need

You'll be degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related Building Services discipline and ideally hold, or be working towards, Incorporated or Chartered status with a recognised professional institution such as CIBSE, IET or IMechE.

You'll bring significant experience within Building Services Engineering and design management, with a proven ability to lead complex projects and manage multiple stakeholders. A strong understanding of technical governance, design risk management, building regulations and modern construction methods is essential.

You'll also have excellent communication and relationship-building skills, enabling you to work effectively with clients, consultants, operational teams and supply chain partners. Most importantly, you'll have a passion for technical excellence, collaboration and delivering innovative engineering solutions
